Our story

We are Jenny and Claire, sisters living in Southampton and Cardiff. Our business is named after the real Jack and Orla, Jenny’s two beautiful children. We design and make thoughtful items for you, your home and your nursery. From origami notelets to print sets, everything we create is designed with joy in mind.

Adding a little JOy to your day

Back in the early days of Jack & Orla, we arranged a planning session to clarify the direction of our business and how we wanted to shape it.

We both said the word ‘joyful’ to describe how we hoped people feel when they shop with us. When we realised JOy was literally to be found within our name, our mission statement was born.

So, JOy has its origins in Jack & Orla of course. But it’s also our reason for being. JOy is the excitement of receiving a new order, it’s the dream of making a living doing something we love. It’s working together
as sisters to create something special. And it’s the hope that we can add a little sparkle to someone’s day with our designs and ideas.

When we were children, we loved playing games like post offices and libraries. We spent hours creating little pockets for library cards inside our books, and fashioning filing boxes filled with cards to sort through.

Many of the products we make today take us back to that tactile time - whether it’s the satisfying way our notelets fold up on themselves to create a pleasing little envelope, or a carefully chosen paper stock.

Our vision is to create items that we love, and we’d enjoy including in our homes. Our designs are inspired by all sorts of things – from the origami cranes at Claire’s wedding to Jenny’s fashion degree projects, and of course our families (including Henry the dog!).

Really, anything that brings us joy. That might be choosing the perfect colours, adding a sticker here and a tag there, or designing the prettiest packaging.

Claire joined the company in early 2022, drawing on her experience of a career in marketing to help expand the business. After the pandemic, when like everyone we’d been separated so much, it is wonderful to work together on something that keeps us close even when we live apart.

Together, we’ve evolved the business and now we also offer stationery, home and leisure items. Jenny creates products based on things we treasure. From the way the paper feels to our intricate, hand drawn designs, every element has its place and is designed to bring the recipient happiness and a little extra joy.
